Irgendwann f\u00e4ngt ein Stern an, dem anderen Materie zu klauen. Am Ende steht oft eine gro\u00dfe Zerst\u00f6rung. Und ein farbenpr\u00e4chtiger Nebel.<\/p>\n<p>Das Hubble-Weltraumteleskop verw\u00f6hnt unsere Augen immer wieder mit hochaufl\u00f6senden Bildern aus dem All. Wohl kaum jemand kann sich der Faszination von Aufnahmen entziehen, auf denen farbenreiche Schleier \u00fcber sternklare Himmel tanzen. Auch Kerstin Weis und Dominik Bomans nicht. Die beiden forschen am Astronomischen Institut der Ruhr-Universit\u00e4t Bochum und betrachten die Gebilde nicht nur aus \u00e4sthetischen Gr\u00fcnden gern. In ihrer Arbeit entschl\u00fcsseln sie die physikalischen Prozesse, die zur Bildung der Nebel f\u00fchren. Gerade in Doppelsternsystemen finden sie interessante Effekte, wenn ein Stern dem anderen Materie klaut.<\/p>\n<p>Doppelsterne umkreisen sich gegenseitig, sind aber selten gleich gro\u00df. Das hat Konsequenzen f\u00fcr ihre Entwicklung. Denn: \u201eJe massereicher ein Stern ist, desto schneller altert er\u201c, sagt Prof. Dr. Dominik Bomans. Im Alter bl\u00e4hen sich Sterne zu sogenannten Roten Riesen auf.
