Location and Venue
The convention centre of the German Physical Society (Physikzentrum) is located in Bad Honnef, very close to the Rhine river and at the foot of the Drachenfels, where legendary Siegfried slew the dragon. Thus, you will find yourself in the midst of a historic and romantic part of the Rhine valley, a place very popular with tourists, too. The Physikzentrum is an ideal starting point for walks and hikes through vineyards and hills overlooking the Rhine, as well as along the bank of the Rhine itself. Arrangement of boating tours on the Rhine is also possible, and many famous castles, as well as larger cultural centres like the towns of Bonn and Cologne (with its famous cathedral) are only a short distance away.
The Physikzentrum is equipped with a new lecture hall (finished in 2003) seating up to 100 people, offering lots of space and all technical equipment. The Centre itself is a large historical building, somewhat like a small castle in appearance, which can house about 60 workshop participants in very individual rooms (the standard room in the centre comes with a washstand, and large, well equipped bathrooms are usually shared). The friendly and cheerful atmosphere of the building and its extremely helpful staff contribute greatly to the special atmosphere of co-operation and discussion we wish to create for the workshop. The centreoffers three meals a day, as well as a beer cellar (where you can also get wine,of course) and a large, park-like garden. Typically mild August evenings might be very well suited to long discussions under the old trees in the garden, enjoying a bottle of wine. Family members are welcome, of course! Participants who cannot (or do not want to) stay in the centre itself have a wide choice of nearby hotels of all categories. We will gladly help you to make individual arrangements. |
