In 1993 a research initiative started (Graduiertenkolleg = Graduate Research School), sponsored by the german research foundation (DFG). The first title of this project was
"The Magellanic System - its Dynamics, Evolution and its Interaction with the Milky Way".
In 1996 the field of research was extended on other dwarf galaxies:
"The Magellanic System and Other Dwarf Galaxies".
From 1999 to the end of 2001 the third and last name reflected the further extension of the field of research. The Graduiertenkolleg involved staff members and Ph.D. students of the Radioastronomy Department Bonn, the Sternwarte Bonn, and the Astronomical Institute of the University of Bochum.
In April 2002 there is launched a new (follow-up) Graduate Research School (GRK 787 Bochum - Bonn) on
"Galaxy Groups as Laboratories for Baryonic and Dark Matter".
