Mini Symposium 5

"Evolution of Galaxies - Observation and Dynamics"

Convener:

Rainer Spurzem (ARI Heidelberg; Dynamics)

Dominik Bomans (AI Ruhr-Universität Bochum; Faint and Low Surface Brightness Galaxies)

Bodo Ziegler (Uni.-Sternwarte Göttingen; Galaxy Evolution)

Abstract:

Galaxies are the building blocks of the luminous universe. They provide one of the most important links between the early universe, its epoch of structure formation, and the present day universe, via their enormeously rich and various morphological, chemical, and dynamical properties. They define the subject of this mini-symposium. As subtopic we want to highlight the three topics as mentioned below. This mini-symposium is a follow-up of previous mini-symposia in JENAM's of 1998 (Prague), 1999 (Toulouse), and 2000 (Moscow), but its focus has been taken away from pure theory and dynamics, in accord with the entire JENAM-2001.
